Is everyone in the church of Yahshua Messiah supposed to be baptized, or is baptism merely an option, a choice, a personal preference, as many believe? In order to answer this question truthfully, we must look to that which is written in the Holy Bible. In searching, you will discover that there is no scripture telling us that we don't have to be baptized, no, not one. However, there are quite a few verses stating that baptism is and always will be a crucial part of Yahweh our Creator's perfect plan of salvation.
In proving that baptism is indeed necessary for the obtaining of salvation, let us begin at the beginning, with Yahshua Messiah himself. It is written in Eph. 5:23 that the Messiah is the head of the church. And being the head causes him to be our leader and our example. So then, if the Master was baptized, shouldn't all his servants be baptized as well? Was Yahshua baptized? The answer, Yes he was. The Bible states in Matt. 3:14,15 that the Lord Yahshua indeed was baptized by John The Baptist in the river Jordan. At that time, "John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Yahshua answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him."
Now that we know that even the Lord himself was baptized, and that he is our leader, and that it fulfilled all righteousness for him to be baptized, it is time to direct our attention to the men and women that followed Yahshua, the apostles and the rest of his disciples. Were the original apostles of our Lord and Savior baptized? The answer is once again, Yes. John 4:1 informs us that Yahshua made and baptized more disciples than John The Baptist.
But what about after the original disciples? Were they the only followers of the Messiah that were instructed to be baptized? This time the answer is, No. In Matt. 28:19, Yahshua commanded his 11 apostles to "teach all nations, and to baptize them..." Acts 2:38 declares unto us that the Apostle Peter was obedient to Yahshua's commandment, telling the Jews that were gathered together at Jerusalem on the Day Of Pentecost, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahshua Messiah for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as Yahweh our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized..." Peter also wrote in 1 Peter 3:21 that "...baptism doth also now save us..." And Peter also commanded for the whole house of Cornelius the Gentile to be baptized, after having said to the Jews that were with him, " Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized?" The answer being, of course, that no one should ever forbid water, or in other words, no one should ever teach that baptism is not essential. Paul the Apostle, the same Paul that wrote many of the epistles(letters) of the New Testament, even he was baptized according to Acts 9:18 and Acts 22:16, that his sins may be washed away. In Romans 6, he explains in detail that the only way to be buried with the Lord is to be baptized.
As you can see, the Bible is full of verses that are written for our learning, concerning whether or not baptism is necessary. But there is one more verse that we have to share with you, a scripture that may speak more clearly to you than all the afore mentioned scriptures. And that is Mark 16:15,16. It is written that Yahshua told his 11 apostles, before he ascended up on high, to go "...into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Dear reader, please consider what you have read in this literature. We pray, here at The Infallible True Church Of Yahshua The Messiah Of The Apostolic Faith, that your heart will be touched by this truth, that Yahweh may bless you and keep you unto life everlasting. In Yahshua's name, AMEN.
